Freeport Girls Drop Laurel Hill 56-52

By PATRICK CASEY

The Freeport Lady Bulldogs scored the last six points of the game to pull out a 56-52 victory at home over Laurel Hill on Dec. 9.

Chelsea Lindaas tied the game with a put-back basket with a minute to play and Dannica Mosher scored four of her 26 points on the night in the final 45 seconds for the Bulldogs to grab the win.

Freeport trailed 33-27 at halftime but got the offense going in the second half as Mosher found her stroke by scoring 17 points in the second half of play. Jess Moulton and Lindaas each scored 12 points apiece as the Bulldogs slowed the outside shooting of Laurel Hill and took advantage of several turnovers to hold off the visiting squad.

Freeport improved to 4-2 with the win but was stung on Friday night by a pesky Jay squad that dropped the Bulldogs to 4-3 with a 59-41 win in Freeport.

Becca Calloway scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds while making 14-of-18 free throws from the line to help Jay hold off the Bulldogs. Freeport struggled to rebound the basketball as Jay forced several turnovers and gobbled up a majority of the rebounds on the night.

Game Notes: Freeport Head Coach Mike Myrick is in his 12th season at the helm of the program and has a record of 114-175 at the school. Freeport has won eight of the last nine games with Laurel Hill and holds a 14-11 record against the Hoboes since the 1997-98 season. Freeport will travel to Jay for a rematch on Jan. 14 and will close out the regular season with a game in Laurel Hill on Jan. 28.
