By BEN GRAFTON
The Freeport City Council special meeting of Dec. 23 was called to in order to deal with three agenda items: first, execution of the eased sewer system loan agreement (outstanding balance of $2.1 million more or less) with Walton County; second, execution of the agreement to transfer the Freeport Fire Department to the Walton County Fire Department; and third, to interview the top two applicants for the open Freeport Parks Director position and to extend an offer of employment to the applicant scoring the most rating points under the system used by the Freeport Council for this purpose.
The first two agenda items were dealt with in short order when the Council approved separate motions to accept each of the two agreements. The third agenda item was then addressed .
City Clerk Gary Mattison called applicants Dana Weiler, a resident of Ponce De Leon, and Patrick Markey, a resident of Destin, in turn, into the Council chamber and asked each one a series of questions about background and work experience. Answers were addressed to the Council. Following the prepared questions phase, Council members had the opportunity to address their own questions to the applicants.
Council members then took time to review information from previously reviewed resumes and the question and answer presentations and to fill out a ranking score sheet for each applicant. At the end of this process, the Council approved a motion to extend an offer of employment to Dana Weiler.
