FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY student Lia Wolfe visited the DeFuniak Springs Rotary Club on Wednesday, Aug. 17, and spoke to the club about a subject she knows all too well. She addressed the gathering about her struggles with depression and societal stigmas related to mental illness. She is currently pursuing a double major in phycology and biology and is an aspiring neuroscientist. “Sadness is a feeling but depression is a mental illness, You can not tell how someone feels from the outside,” Wolfe stressed. “Society is so empathetic and accepting to any part of the body breaking down unless it is the brain, we have to eliminate the stigmas surrounding mental illness.” (photo by Jeffrey Powell)
