The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office charged a Defuniak Springs man with elderly exploitation and grand theft for keeping the money for a landscaping job he never performed and using the cash for personal gain.
34-year old Christopher Daniel Roberson of 270 East Main Street is accused of offering to do landscaping work for a Baker man in January 2015 for $3000. The homeowner, who is 66 years old and suffers from the effects of a stroke, said Roberson cashed the check the next day but never started the work.
When asked about the money, Roberson told the Baker resident he had used it to pay for his mother’s funeral and buy a new car. Roberson then agreed to work for $10 an hour for 300 hours, but
only worked thirteen hours before refusing to honor their agreement.
