County commission to hear Whiskey Bravo proposal

By DOTTY NIST

County commissioners will be considering a development proposal involving the rebuilding of the former Wheelhouse Restaurant on CR-30A in Seagrove as a new restaurant known as 723 Whiskey Bravo. The public hearing for the restaurant is scheduled for the Jan. 11 regular meeting of the Walton County Board of County Commissioners (BCC).

The development proposal was previously heard by the Walton County Planning Commission’s December meeting, with approximately 50 citizens in attendance, including neighbors of the property under discussion. While some attendees supported the plan, many others raised concerns about the proposed business putting additional traffic on residential streets in the surrounding neighborhood. Citizens also questioned the sufficiency of the size of the parking area for the restaurant. A total of 44 spaces were proposed as parking for the 5.748-square-foot restaurant. County staff found the project to be consistent with the requirements of the county comprehensive plan and land development code, subject to a number of conditions to be met prior to the issuance of a development order. The planning commission voted unanimously to recommend approval of 723 Whiskey Bravo, subject to the conditions noted by staff.

The BCC is expected to make a final decision at the Jan. 11 public hearing on the proposal. The BCC meeting is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and take place at the South Walton Courthouse Annex.
