NOTICE OF INTENT OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF WALTON COUNTY, FLORIDA TO ADOPT A REVISED RULE – CHALLENGED MATERIALS

The School Board of Walton County, Florida, hereby gives notice of its intent to adopt a revised rule entitled Challenged Materials.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT: The purpose and effect of the adoption of the revised policy, Challenged Materials, is to reduce the amount of time required to resolve complaints received by the district.

SUMMARY: The revised rule eliminates the school level review committee. Challenged Materials complaints will be heard by a district committee. In the event the person submitting the complaint disagrees with the decision of the district committee, the complainant may appeal to the school board.

LEGAL AUTHORITY: The adoption of this proposed policy is authorized by Sections 1001.41, and 1001.42, Florida Statutes, and the law implemented is Sections 1000.21, 1001.41, and 1001.43, Florida Statutes.

ECONOMIC IMPACT – The adoption of the revised rule, Challenged Materials, will not result in any additional costs to the School District.

A public hearing will be held by the School Board of Walton County, Florida, at 5:15 p.m. during the regular board meeting on May 6, 2008, in the Board Room at the Tivoli Administrative Complex, 145 Park Street, DeFuniak Springs, Florida, for the purpose of considering the revised Challenged Materials policy. Any interested person may appear at the hearing and present evidence and argument and be heard concerning the adoption of the revised rule, Challenged Materials. Immediately following the public hearing the School Board of Walton County, Florida, will consider final action to adopt the revised rule..

The entire text of the Challenged Materials revision is on file and available for inspection during regular office hours at the office of the Superintendent of Schools, Walton County, Florida, located at 145 Park Street, Suite 3, DeFuniak Springs, Florida.

If a person decides to appeal any decision made by the School Board with respect to any matter considered at such meeting or hearing, such person will need a record of the proceedings, and for such purpose, such person may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.

The School Board of Walton County does not discriminate upon the basis of any individual’s disability status. The name of the person originating the revised Challenged Materials policy is Cathy Hall and the name of the name of the person approving the revised policy for consideration by the School Board is Carlene H. Anderson.

The Notice of Rule Development required by 120.54, Florida Statues, was published on March 20, 2008, in the DeFuniak Herald-Breeze.

The parking lot will be sloped to allow the stormwater runoff to collect in the open swales that will be piped to a small pond in the northeast corner of the site. A 4’ tall timber retaining wall will be constructed along two sides of the pond for containment.

Bids will be accepted at the City Hall Annex located at 35 U.S. Hwy. 90 West, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435 until 2:00 p.m., April 22, 2008. Bids will be opened at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 70 U.S. Hwy. 90 West, DeFuniak Springs, FL at the above time and date. Bids shall be clearly marked on the outside of the envelope, “Sealed Bid – Compact Pickup Truck 4×2, ½ Ton Pickup Truck 4×2, and ½ Ton Pickup Truck 4×4”. Any bids received after 2:00 p.m. on the above date will not be accepted and will be returned unopened to the bidder.

Bid specifications shall be as specified or equivalent to Florida Sheriff’s Association, Florida Association of Counties and Florida Fire Chiefs Association and as follows:

Separate sealed BIDS for the construction of TRAFFFIC CONTROL IMPROVEMENTS will be received by the CITY OF DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, FLORIDA until 2:30 p.m., local time, MAY 5, 2008 at the CITY HALL at 71 U.S. Hwy. 90 West (P.O. CONTRACT 1:
