DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

 

The City of DeFuniak Springs, Florida will receive a Historic Preservation Grant in June, 2016 for The Preservation, Restoration and Rehabilitation of The Chautauqua Hall of Brotherhood which is listed on The National Register of Historic Places.  The project start date is July 1, 2016 with a completion date of July 1, 2018.  The 7,000+ sq. ft. building was completed in 1909 and has undergone a number of preservation efforts over the years to upgrade the structure and its systems. Preservation items for this project include exterior and interior painting and elimination of water intrusion (rotten wood, roof replacement on dome and porches, etc.).  Restoration will include replacement of worn flooring, replacement of ceilings, lighting and other fixtures that are incompatible with the building’s historic character. Rehabilitation efforts will include installation of a commercial elevator, remodeling areas such as bathrooms, stairways, doorways and partitions to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards and the installation the following systems: lightening and fire suppression; fire alarms; replacement of HVAC and electrical systems, etc. to meet Life Safety Codes. Further delineation of the required work, a pre-bid meeting with a survey of the building is scheduled for Thursday May 19 at 1 pm, 95 Circle Drive, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are required: 1. A license as a General Contractor in good standing with the State of Florida and with Walton County; 2. At least 7 years of experience as a General Contractor; 3. At least 2 years experience in working with historic preservation architects as well as in over sight of the construction aspects of historic preservation, restoration and rehabilitation projects; 5. General knowledge of criteria found in the  The Department of the Interior Standards for the Preservation and Rehabilitation of Historic Structures; 6. Experience in contracting with governmental entities; 7. Experience in adherence to the Davis Bacon Act; and 8. Documentation of Worker’s Compensation Insurance, Liability Insurance not less than one million dollars and Bonding equivalent to 100% of the bid amount is required.  In addition, college level course work in business, management, construction sciences or related job experience is desired.
